Biographical Information

Mr. Stephan Schill
Clerk, International Court of Justice
Stephan comes to us from Germany, where he obtained an LL.M. from the University of Augsburg and passed the German equivalents of the JD in 2001 and the Bar Exam in 2003. A recipient of the Hauser Global Scholarship, Stephan joined NYU in 2005 and received his second LL.M. in May 2006. He has since worked towards the completion of his Ph.D. in international investment protection at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main.
While at NYU Stephan was a research assistant to Professor Kingsbury and Graduate Editor of the NYU Journal of International Law and Politics. Prior to that, he worked with the Bavarian Ministry of Justice, Germany, as Notarassessor - a step towards becoming a civil law notary. Stephan has also held numerous clerkships in the private and public sector. These include Covington & Burling, LLP in Brussels, Belgium, The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Shearman & Sterling LLP in Mannheim, Germany, Leonhardt, Dietl, Graf and von der Fecht in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the Court of Appeals in Munich, Germany.
