Transnational Corporations and Human Rights
This seminar examines the impact of the activities of transnational corporations (TNCs) on the enjoyment of human rights and the ability of States to protect and to realize them. Specifically, the seminar will discuss: the impact of foreign direct investment on the ability of host States to protect and fulfill human rights; the mechanisms through which TNCs are made accountable for human rights violations they commit or encourage, or in which they share complicity (including, i.a., the initiatives adopted within the ILO, the OECD, and the UN, voluntary codes of conduct, economic incentives, or extra-territorial legislation); the relationship between the protection of intellectual property and the protection of the rights of investors, and human rights.
