This course introduces the most fundamental doctrines of copyright law, emphasizing their role in shaping the information environment. Issues covered include the theoretical foundation of copyright law, the prerequisites for copyright protection, exclusive rights of copyright owners and their statutory limitations, the new copyright regime established by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, ownership acquisition and transfer, infringement, defenses and remedies.
